Fear Not- God is Love

I was taught to obey God because of a loving relationship not out of fear!

The gift our parents gave us as children was guiding us into a personal relationship with God. It was such a sense of security to know that no matter what God was there for us. We were taught that He sees all! He hears all! And He knows all and therefore was never further then each breath we took. We were taught that it was an unconditional love that engulfed our being. Mommy use to say, that she would (in the Jamaican way) always love us but sometimes not like our ways. Well the very thought of her not “liking our ways was bothersome enough to make us reflect and evaluate what we had done!!

Children have an innate element in their design to want to be “liked” and that took  care of whatever that character trait was. She would say, “ this behavior will not serve you well and you are not being your highest self”! So in our relationship with our Heavenly Father that same sense of wanting to be our highest self was automatically a part of our personal relationship with God! Perhaps this is why Jesus took such an interest in children. Children are still connected to the source from which they come. Children don’t have to struggle intellectually over the presence of God. The essence of God within them is not something separate from themselves.

If we could but find a way to nurture that essence in such a way that there was never a “ break in belonging”, this would be such a different world!!
