Some of us are resigning ourselves to accepting the status quo and are stuck in jobs and relationships that we feel we can’t let go of! While others are resigning from jobs, institutions and relationships that have tried to suck the life out of them and rob them of their dignity, self-worth, and creativity. They can no longer reside in situations and with people that they are not worthy of. This is a period where people have taken the opportunity to re-evaluate their lives. The word on the street is that there are more jobs available than ever and not enough people to take the jobs. I don’t know how this is all going to play out, but somehow, I have a feeling it is all part of a “Divine Plan”. People want to be respected. People want a work life balance. People want to be able to bring their gifts to the table and have others value their contributions. People want employers that are invested in their employees so that the employee feels a sense of being a vital and necessary part of the “team”.
People don’t want to work a job for 40 + years and by the time they retire they end up sick and can’t enjoy the next chapter of their life’s journey. I have known so many people that fall into this category. No one appreciates people making that kind of sacrifice anymore, if in fact they ever did. What is the current bottom line? Work a job. Build a retirement fund. Get health care, if your employer provides it, otherwise you are out of luck if you can’t afford to buy it privately. Work hard to earn a vacation that you are usually too exhausted to enjoy and by the time you relax, it’s time to go back to work. If you are lucky, you might not have to bring work home. Well enough said about working a “job”!
I believe what people are looking for is not a “job”, but their “work”! People want to find purpose in their life. People want to find their purpose, the thing that makes their heart sing, and their head spin with excitement. People want to be needed and appreciated. People want their days to be spent in an environment that promotes their “divine gifts” and where they can feel comfortable and welcomed. People are over being in an environment that stifles them and working for employers that keep them on edge all day. People don’t want to dread going to work anymore. They want to work hard and show integrity and ethics on their job, but they don’t want to do so to a point that the job takes over their life. It’s a new day! It’s a new beginning! It’s about finding the quality of life you deserve.
I have a theory that when people are under stress and are in a state of dis-ease, it breeds disease! This is why this period of reflection, introspection, and surveying the content and context of our lives is critical. It is so beautiful and exciting to see people take back control of what they will and will not do. I think that ultimately, we are going to be a healthier society and with that I am encouraged that we will be able to live in a better world that is worth all of us investing in. So here we find ourselves making the decision of whether to live in fear and resign ourselves to living and working in just the status quo or stepping out in faith and letting go of things in our life that do not serve us well. Let’s pump ourselves up and take on making sure we are doing “our work and not a job!
