Prayer-A Matter of Choice

Creating your space for prayer

The Lord’s Prayer-My Daily Devotion

It is a prayer! It is a meditation of grace, gratitude, mercy, love, acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness!

I get excited when people of faith express their belief that there is an entity- creator bigger than themselves! Each of us have the right in this country to be in full expression of our religious beliefs as long as we:

📍Respect each other

📍Are not imposed upon to believe in another person’s religious beliefs.

📍Are not harmed by another person’s beliefs.

📍We even acknowledge that there are those that chose to not believe in a higher power that they can have a spiritual relationship with. They might feel that they are enough, and that they are capable of living their lives independent of a spiritual connection to anything other than themselves.  That is a personal choice and decision that no one has the authority to dictate prescribe for anyone. It is personal and private.  For those of us that do live in that spiritual space our job is to merely demonstrate our faith by living our faith and beliefs.

Each of us have the right and freedom to express our spiritual and or religious beliefs. I believe that God speaks to each of us in a multitude of ways and that there is still more knowledge and truth to learn. As for me I am of the Judaea- Christian faith and I embrace all that I have been taught and exposed to through the richness of my parents’ heritage and religious choices.  My parents were very intentional about exposing us to other faiths so that we could choose what resonated with our soul.  We were raised in the Christian faith in conjunction with my Mother’s Jewish heritage. I am intentional about honoring and respecting people of “faith”.

I believe that knowing the power of our creator, whoever we chose to see this eternal entity to be, is there in which ever expression we need it to be.  It is a walk we must each take for ourselves and on our own! There is peace in faith. There is mercy and forgiveness in faith. It teaches us trust, patience, and to be non-judgmental!

As a child, my rationale on this subject was so simplistic.  I always felt that if we as human beings had different languages, and if nature had millions of different flowers to express its’ beauty, I could not think of limiting God on how he would relate to us. I learned the Lord’s Prayer, which is the substance of my faith dating back to childhood. I love it and recite it every day of my life. It was the song I sang as a child as my first solo. It guides me. It sustains me when I am too broken to think or breathe on my own. So today I would like to share it with you my friends:

The Lord’s Prayer:  My personal Interpretation:

Our Father who art in heaven,

(That sacred place where I reside with God and God resides within me)

Hallowed be thy name.

(Sacred is the identity of my Creator)

Thy kingdom come,

(My purpose in this life is to live my divinity so that I fulfill my purpose that was designed intentionally for me)

Thy will be done

(I surrender my life to God so that I walk in faith with God and for God)

On earth, as it is in heaven.

(That walking this life with and for God I can be in a heavenly space on earth)

Give us this day our daily bread,

(Bread of life that feeds not only my physical body, but my soul)

And forgive us our debts,

(Knowing that I am human and not perfection and so there is grace and mercy for me from God)

As we forgive our debtors,

(I must extend that grace and mercy to my brothers and sisters that share the human experience with me)

And lead us not into temptation,

(I must use the discernment and wisdom God endowed me with)

But deliver us from evil.

(God protects me from those that would do me harm and try to separate me from God)

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.

(I know the power in loving God and the power of God for loving me)

🙏🏽 Amen.
