The topic of the care and sustainability of our planet is a hot topic thanks to the exposure of media and social media!  There is now concern and grass roots action across the globe to bring to awareness the seriousness of our need to preserve and care for our planet.  It is therefore important to raise our children from a very early age to have an awareness of how they can be “helpers and caretakers of our planet”! Indigenous people on this planet, when in touch with their connection to nature, have always been our earth’s caretakers. They have as their special gifts, knowledge of what the earth needs and how to provide for it’s well being and are willing to share these gifts, if we are willing to “listen and do”.  If we start with our children learning about what is needed to preserve our planet, we will be supporting their future and quality of life.

It is important to start with simple little things that can be done in our habits in our lifestyles. We can teach them about recycling, community projects for clean-up and planting gardens to share.  There are so many opportunities to get them involved in project and activities that are opportunities for us as families and our children, to participate in.  It is about raising by nurturing and exposing our children to these experiences that we are fostering a consciousness of civil responsibility and our connection to each other and the planet that supports our lives.  Exploration, reading books pertaining to ecology and climate change, researching, and hands on experiences are tools we can employ to learn and grow in our humanity. Check out the community activities, learning programs, and games that support children learning about the universe they inhabit.  There is always more truth and knowledge to learn.
