Yes, we are as parents and caregivers constantly being challenged with allowing our children the space and time to explore their world and unleash their curiosity and desire to know the “what’s and why’s” of life. It is so much a part of their divine human design and to be honest we are not supposed to stifle this innate God given desire of their heart! What we are to do is to guide it, safeguard it, and nurture their curiosity which is the foundation of the development of a “healthy and age-appropriate independence. It is an emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual evolution that is natural and necessary.
As their guardians appointed by Great Spirit, we have to find the situations and places that will provide opportunities for them to test the waters and try themselves. If we don’t see who they are and what they need, we can’t support them in this most important are of their development. Children need to know that we support them looking for chances to prove what they can do “all by themselves”! It builds confidence, it builds trust, it builds the “I can do anything -all by myself”. So with that being said we need to think about the things our child like to do and find ways to incorporate them into fun discover challenges where they can stretch their imagination and cultivate their independence safely, but authentically. It is actually quite amazing and fulfilling to watch them evolve into independent little explorers -one adventure at a time!
