We as parents and caregivers, have to be oh so intentional about nurturing our children in seeing and believing that they are loved, love, and worthy of being loved. We need to guide them in understanding that they are more than their physicality and that the light that comes from them is beautiful and grows more beautiful and powerful every day. The power of this light that is embedded in their divine identity helps them to overcome any challenges that they will have to face.
It might not seem important when you get your first pair of glasses or have to have your teeth braced, but so much of how our society engages with us is done on our physical looks. We criticize and judge each other by the standards that society imposes on us and children are not immune from this unfair societal practice. We have to instill in them that they do not need anyone’s validation and that when they are confronted with challenges that are new and seem to make them feel unsettled or insure, that they have with our support what they need to embrace the challenge and adapt and make the necessary adjustments to “be alright”! It takes a lot of sensitivity on our part and knowing how our kids respond to stress and new things. I am so pleased with the way Ua has responded to his new accessory-glasses! The smile of happiness and admiration for how he looks is priceless. If you think about all the things children grapple with throughout the world, we have to be cognizant of what we can do to keep things in alignment and appropriate for them so that they have the childhood they deserve.
