Today is January 6th, “Three Kings Day” and also known as “Epiphany” . This is a day when Christians celebrate the moment when the Magi, often know as the Three Wise Men or Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem to honor the newborn Jesus. Spiritually this time of Epiphany symbolizes “revelation”. It is when Christ was revealed not only to Isreal but to all nations.
It is about revealing the possibilities of “Love”.
It is about revealing the need for “Compassion”.
It is about revealing the need for “Justice”.
It is about revealing the need for “Empathy”.
It is about revealing the need for “Respecting” ourselves and others.
It is about revealing the need for seeking and speaking the “Truth and being Honest”.
It is about revealing the need for “Looking Out” for the wellbeing of each other.
It is about revealing the need to hold dear the “Sanctity of family” and the value of loyalty in our friendships.
It is about revealing that by opening our minds and hearts to these basic elements that are the cornerstones to the “Purpose of Christ Life”, that we have the potential of living our own life’s purpose in alignment with who we were “designed to be”.
Think about what the Three Kings did to follow that star and what the gifts that were given to Christ on that night of “Epiphany” might have meant that has lasted thousands of years.
They were perhaps seeking “Truth”.
They were able to recognize the sacred in unexpected places.
They offered gifts of Gold-as a way to honor Jesus as King.
They offered Frankincense as a way to recognize His divinity.
They offered Myrrh as a way of foreshadowing suffering and sacrifice on His part not ours.
What does this day of “Epiphany” ask of us today? This day reminds us that we are being asked to offer humanity our gifts of love, time, and service, because these gifts are more precious and make a greater impact on the world today than materialistic gifts could ever have.
