(The title is from an old Slave hymn)This is a note I sent to my daughter today that she gave me permission to share. I have had a difficult couple of weeks trying to find the space, time and inspiration to share my “streams of consciousness”! But today Niki touched my heart and felt compelled to respond. We as individuals and as families are all being haunted by this pandemic and the chaos it is causing in our daily lives. So here goes.

We Shall Not Be Moved

Dearest Niki,

This is what we will get back to!! We have in our midst a mighty God and masterful Savior who has the power to heal this world! He would never forsake His faithful children! Yes there is a pandemic that is challenging our world and the routines of our daily life styles but we have done so well and we will continue to do well and ride this madness out! We shall not be moved! We shall overcome! Inside the story of this pandemic something else is happening that will have an even greater impact on society. We are seeing the condition of our humanity and we are re- evaluating who we are in the world and what is and is not of value to sustain our minds, bodies and spirits! We see the raw truth in everything and everyone that speaks and acts. We have evolved in terms of the gift of discernment! We now know who and who not to trust! We bind our families together like the tribes of old! We love on each other! We protect each other! We pray for and with each other. We stand up and for each other.Dearest Niki

If each tribe truly took care of their tribe, everyone on the face of this planet would not only survive, but thrive! We are all interconnected. We had to see the ugly and evil that exist, in this world in order to rebuke it and take action against it. There is nothing in the core of humanity that is new! There is in contrast to this devastation of human character, that which is good and beautiful. The contrast gives us an opportunity to choose for ourselves! We cannot ignore what has gone array in this world, but we do have the responsibility to acknowledge it’s existence and then do good and be good to ourselves and others as we travel this journey called “life”!

I refuse to be defeated and dissuaded by these turbulent world affairs! I am choosing good health in my mind, body, and spirit and I am claiming that for our family, friends, and praying for it for humanity. What we have to do now is follow the course that has kept us safe so far. We had our vaccines. We wear our masks! We wash our hands! We go out where we have to go and take precautions. If we are exposed to large groups of people and feel concerned we quarantine and take a test. We don’t bombard ourselves with trying to keep up with everything that comes out all day long! We have our protocol and we are standing by it!
God is our strength and guiding light that can never be extinguished!
